Heritage Restaurant Celebration: Honoring 250 Years of American Independence

Erie County, May 8th-May 17th, 2026

By 1776, we had enough cultures and languages on these shores to resemble an early version of the United Nations. In 2026, some cultures look back on these three-thousand-year-old roots, while others look back on their three-hundred-year-old roots, while still others look back on their thirty-year-old roots. We mark this year as the 250th anniversary of American Independence, but it is also a celebration of this continent’s long tradition of welcoming various cultures and languages, enabling people to sow the seeds of what we call home.

No matter who we are or where we came from, we must all eat. Heritage Restaurant Celebration—a partnership between Erie County 250th Commemorative Commission and the General Pulaski Association—honors the culinary traditions of various cultural heritages by encouraging residents to try flavor profiles and ingredients from across the globe, all accessible in Erie County thanks to our restaurants that keep the traditions going. Between May 8th and May 17th, our partner restaurants in the German, Polish, Italian, Indian, Bengali, Chinese, Burmese, Thai, Lebanese, Latin American, and American culinary traditions will be offering their cuisines and specials for residents to enjoy.

Diners, what to expect: participating restaurants are listed at ErieCounty250.com, https://visitbuffalo.com/erie-county-250/, generalpulaski.com, and social posts from Erie County Historical Commission and partners. Also, flyers around town will post partner restaurants—check flyers and websites for information on hours, reservations and specials.

Restaurants, what to expect: residents might be veterans or entirely new to a flavor profile. Anything you can share on the history and experience when they visit might help!

Celebrate Mother’s Day, or a graduation dinner, while enjoying the historical tradition of our heritage partners!
